Stand against a wall.

Bare feet, on a hard floor — not a rug. Put the back of your heel flat against the wall.

Mark your longest toe

Place a book or any flat-edged object against the tip of your longest toe, standing straight up. That isn't always your big toe.

One is almost always longer than the other. That's normal. Use the bigger number.

Foot shapes

Two people can both wear 43 and need completely different shoes.
Length gives us the size, but shape is what decides how we cut it.

Normal Fit

Most shoes in your size fit you fine. You buy off the shelf without much drama and you're not constantly adjusting laces to get comfortable. If nothing below sounds like you, you're normal.

Wide Fit

Your foot presses outward against the sides. The length is right but the shoe squeezes across the ball of your foot, and after a few hours you can see the marks. The usual fix is to buy a size up, which gives you a shoe that's too long and still tight in the same place.

Narrow Fit

The opposite problem. Your correct size still feels roomy — you tighten the laces as far as they go and your heel lifts when you walk. Slip-ons feel like they might come off. Sizing down doesn't help, because then your toes hit the end. We take width out without shortening the shoe.

High Instep — oke ẹsẹ̀

The top of your foot sits high, near where laces sit. The shoe fits your length fine but you struggle to get your foot in, or the top presses down once it's on. This is not the same as having a wide foot — you can have a narrow foot with a high instep, and it's one of the most common reasons a correctly-sized shoe still feels wrong.
